Checking an opposing player, either with the body or with a stick, is a critical aspect of any player’s game. The idea behind checking is to separate an opposing player from the puck. Checking should not be used to injure, threaten or intimidate an opponent. In fact, improper (or illegal) checking techniques are to blame for most of the severe or catastrophic injuries which occur in hockey. Thus, all players must understand the most effective (and legal) ways to check an opponent. We will also teach players how to receive a check, in order to help prevent injuries.
There are two basic ways to check another player: legally or illegally. (Checking is further broken down into two techniques, body checking and stick checking, which will be taught).
The clinic is for a total of 2 hours, hosted the evenings of December 21st and 22nd at the Ice Barn. Enrollment ($60) includes both sessions.
